What changed

Same idea. Different machine.

v2.1 was one PowerShell file that drew a HUD in a console window. 3.0 is a compiled desktop app with a real window, a real navigation model, and a safety net under every button.

The headline feature

Nothing it does
is permanent.

Every action in RIVET 3.0 — killing a process group, disabling a startup entry, stopping a service, applying a registry tweak, emptying a folder — is a reversible object. It records what it changed and how to put it back, then writes a line to the log.

Tweaks that touch the system take a restore point first. Cleanup routes deletions through the Recycle Bin, not oblivion. If a change breaks something, hit Revert last and it is undone.

Ask reads live counters, the process tree, startup impact, services and the action log — then proposes a fix you confirm with one click, which lands in the log as reversible like anything else. The model runs locally through Ollama; with nothing listening it answers from a built-in knowledge base. No account, no key, nothing leaving the device.

On first run RIVET 3.0 looks for C:\rivet\ and offers to import it — tasks, notes, deadlines, XP and rank all carry over. The old script keeps working; nothing is deleted.

RIVET is a system-level utility. You should be suspicious of it. Here is everything we'd want to know.

Is it safe? What happens if a change breaks something?

Every action RIVET takes is an object that knows its own undo — what it changed, and how to put it back. It writes a line to the action log before it runs, and you can revert any entry, including long after the fact.

Tweaks that touch the system create a restore point first. Cleanup routes deletions through the Recycle Bin rather than deleting outright. The package is a signed MSIX distributed through the Microsoft Store, so it passes Store certification on every update.

Does it need administrator rights?

Not to run. The HUD, process list, startup inventory, Sprint, Tasks, Log and Progression all work as a standard user.

Elevation is requested only at the moment an action needs it — stopping a protected service, writing a machine-wide registry tweak, creating a restore point — and RIVET tells you which capability the action requires before it asks. Settings has a permission surface listing every one of them.

Does Ask RIVET send anything off my device?

No. The model runs locally through llama.cpp — there is no account, no API key, no server to talk to, and no telemetry anywhere in the app.

The only network request RIVET ever makes is the one-time download of the model file itself, on demand, if you choose to use Ask. Once it is on disk the feature works with the machine offline. What's free, and what do I pay for?

Installing is free and the trial runs the complete app — all modules, on your own hardware, for 14 days. Nothing is crippled or watermarked during it.

After that it is a one-off purchase through the Microsoft Store. No subscription, no seats, no upsell inside the app. The licence resolves offline once activated.

Which Windows versions does it run on?

Windows 10 build 1809 or newer, and Windows 11 — x64 only. The runtime ships inside the package, so there are no prerequisites to install and nothing to unblock.
