How to turn off Recall and Copilot in Windows 11
To stop Recall saving snapshots, open Settings > Privacy & security > Recall & snapshots and switch off Save snapshots. To remove the Copilot app, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Copilot, and choose Uninstall.
Windows 11 includes several AI features. Some people use them every day; others would rather choose which ones run. Recall is only available on Copilot+ PCs, so if you don't see its settings page, your PC doesn't have it.
Recall
- Press Win+I and go to Privacy & security.
- Choose Recall & snapshots.
- Switch off Save snapshots. You can also delete snapshots already saved from the same page.
The Copilot app
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Copilot, open the ... menu and choose Uninstall.
- You can reinstall it from the Microsoft Store at any time.
How RIVET does it
RIVET's Tweaks screen has a Windows AI panel that shows each feature's current state in one place: Recall and Recall snapshots (as Windows policies, on Windows 11 version 24H2 and later), the older Copilot pane, and the Microsoft Copilot app. Switch any of them off or back on; each change is previewed and written to History. Policy changes are machine-wide, so they need Admin mode, which asks through Windows' own permission prompt. With Guard (Pro), the choices you protect are re-applied if a Windows update resets them.
Questions
Does every Windows 11 PC have Recall?
No. Recall is only on Copilot+ PCs. If Settings has no Recall & snapshots page, your PC doesn't have it.
Can I get Copilot back after removing it?
Yes. Reinstall the Copilot app from the Microsoft Store. In RIVET, switch it back on from the same panel.
Why does RIVET need administrator permission for Recall?
RIVET turns Recall off with Windows' own policy settings, which apply to the whole PC, so Windows requires an administrator. RIVET never runs as administrator itself; with Admin mode on, it asks through Windows' prompt each time.
